Cat Basket

If you would ask our cat, a cat basket has first and foremost to be comfortable! But before we go into details, this article is about cat baskets like in cat beds, bicycle cat baskets, cat transport baskets and gift baskets for cat owners are treated elsewhere ;-) Back to what our own cat would recommend as the ideal cat basket, meow! First and foremost it should be soft, smooth and warm. The next point for him, we have a tomcat, would be height. Cats love to overlook things, a cat basket on a column, or at least one that is in form of a raised cat bed. So, we have soft, smooth, warm, comfortable and raised for the ideal cat basket. The next point our cat, btw his name is Oscar, would make is that it should be clean. Other than dogs, cats do prefer their resting places clean and fresh smelling. I guess a cats dream would be a a cat basket treated with — catnip perfumed fabric conditioner!

One thing that cats do really hate is when their resting places wobble! So, you want to choose one that is stable and firm. Oh, here is the right moment to introduce the idea that cat baskets consist of two or three parts. One part is the column or the feet that raise the basket itself, the second is the firm basket base (cats love to have something firm to snuggle up against!) and the soft, warm, comfy inlet. You even could choose memory foam for that one.

How high should a cat basket be?
The perch should be high enough that the cat can observe all what is going on in the home and to keep it out of the draft. Oh, and it should be also high enough to allow for a full stretch when using it as a scratch pole. Remember, the higher the cat perch is, the heavier and the stablest its base has to be to avoid that all falls over. A great idea is also when the column is at the same time a scratching post, cats do love, love, love multi-purpose toys and feline furniture. So, if you manage to find a cat basket that is a cave and a scratching pole at the same time, you are well on your way to fulfill your cats dream of the ideal cat furniture. And if funds are low, but your hands are able, there is no reason not to build your furry friend a bespoken cat basket and tree yourself. Wood and carpet is all what you will need.

The cat basket base
Couldn’t think of a better name for this, I am referring to the basket that forms the -form or holding for the soft and comfy bed or blanket your cat likes to snooze on. Back to our cat, he would tell you that it is incredibly imPURRRtant to make sure that the curve of the basket if the right shape and bend in order to accommodate the back of your cat to give it sufficient support. The most traditional material would be a natural wicker cat basket, but others are also very feasible, like plastic or a soft fleece that has been reinforced with a firmer material. Whatever model you choose, just make sure that the basket is neither to big or too small for your cat, it wants just to snoogle in comfortable. Too small and it gets uncomfortable and too large there is too much space around it to feel really safe. Oh, and if you provide a roof, like in a cage, your cat will love you even more!

The cat bed
Yeah, meow, lets get to the third, but most important part of the new cat basket you are about to choose, the snoozy, comfy cat bed. Like said before, a cats dream would be a cat bed that has been treated with catnip perfumed fabric conditioner! Be it like it is, catnip conditioner or not, make sure that it is easy to wash and clean. As much as cats insist in ‘decorating’ all around them with cat hair, they also insist in having clean places to sleep in. Don’t forget, a cat sleeps minimum 13 and up to 18 hours a day, you want to make sure as a responsible cat owner, or better said as an obedient cat slave, that this sleep is spent as comfortable as possible ;-)

In Short
The ideal cat basket or bed consists of a raised platform, to supervise what is going on, with a firm basket, to snoogle comfortably into, a cave like basket that provides security and a soft and smooth cat bed to keep your feline, furry friend warm and comfy! Easy to find, just take kitty shopping and it will tell you exactly what s/ he wants. MEOW!
